A few years ago, as I walked into the Open Studios in Santa Cruz for the first time, I was drawn into a studio full of energy and vivid colors. It was there that I met an artist, Sefla Joseph, that opened my eyes to the world of figurative abstract and paved a new path in my life. I joined Sefla’s painting group and quickly found the power to dare - given to me through painting.
Moving to the Santa Cruz mountains after years of teaching in the Bay Area gave me the peace, solitude, and mindset required to create my paintings. Surrounded by redwoods and maple trees, with piles of paint and brushes by my side, I have been able to explore colors, shapes, figures and expressions. Above all, I find the beauty in the spontaneous brush strokes and the unknown outcome. There is no right or wrong.
I invite the viewers to imagine. To listen to the expressions in the paintings and hopefully to feel the connections I strive to create with my work.
